Welcome to The Poustinia

Glory to Jesus Christ!
Слава Ісусу Христу!

“Welcome one another just as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God” (Romans 15:7)

OLJAWSWhether you are just browsing or are searching out a new faith community, we are delighted to extend to you a very warm welcome! To give you some idea of what we’re about, the following is a sketch of our foundational beliefs.

We are committed to the embodiment of God’s love and justice within and through the mission of the Orthodox-Catholic Church of America. The core of our faith is found in Jesus’ response to the question “Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?” – we are to “love God with all our heart, soul (being) and mind” and to “love neighbor as self” (Matthew 22:36-40).

We advocate for faithful, systemic and intersectional solutions to our human struggles, so that we might fully welcome all persons and thereby love God, others and self, according to the good news of Jesus Christ.

“A New Commandment I Give to You”

…is to ensure the Orthodox Catholic Monastery of Our Lady Joy of All Who Sorrow embodies the presence, love and grace of God offered to all persons.

…is to build community in a way that bridges the monastic community with the extended community, to all who share our mission.

…is traditional but not conservative, orthodox but not rigid. We are traditional, progressive, contemplative and mystical. We are a unique type of community, professing the truths of the ancient creeds and observing a rather traditional liturgical praxis (ordo) blended with a progressive theology and contemplative spirituality.
